Welcome
to the O.R.E.O. Project 2012!
(Our Really
Exciting Online
Project)
Classrooms
around the world are invited to participate.
Classrooms will need to have each
student stack oreo® cookies as high as he or she can and then
average all their individual results to achieve a final Class
result.
Project
Dates:
September 17 to October 12, 2012
EXTENDED to October 19, 2012!!
IMPORTANT
INFORMATION
You will measure the COUNT of cookies used to
stack --
NOT height of stack.
Each
participating class needs at least
1 bag of Nabisco's Oreo®
Chocolate and
Creme Sandwich Cookies.
(classrooms need to use the REGULAR oreo cookie --
not double stuf or triple double for their average.
IF you wish to use the different kinds as a class comparison -- that is fine.)
Students
will estimate how many oreos
they are able to stack before their
oreos®
tumble.
Students
are NOT to use anything to stablize the cookie
and they are NOT able to adjust cookies as they
stack. (i.e....once they have placed the cookie and their hand
has left the cookie, they may NOT adjust that
cookie again.) Students will stack ONE cookie on top of the next cookie one at a time.
Each
student will have TWO attempts to stack oreos®
and
will record the highest amount they were able
to stack before
tumbling.
Teachers should explain to their students that this is a
project with schools all over the world and also explain what
information this project is attempting to collect. They should also discuss that at the end of the project, all results will from
their classroom will be averaged and posted!
After every participant (yes, teachers are encouraged to stack too) has had two attempts and has recorded their highest stack, the class will add all the highest stacks together and then divide by the # of participants to get a CLASS AVERAGE.
After you have the class average, please visit the submission page to share your results. After you have submitted your results, you will be directed to a page where you can print out the certificate of participation.
